What Makes These Vendetta Cards So Expensive?
Over-numbered cards are behind most of the high prices you see in Vendetta. Overnumbered cards have a card number that goes beyond the set's official count of 166. You can spot them because the number on the card exceeds the set size, like 189/166. Riot has confirmed that no Overnumbered card will ever be reprinted with the same art and frame, so what gets printed is all there will ever be. In Vendetta, Overnumbered cards come in these variants:
- Legend Overnumbered: One for each of the nine new legends introduced in Vendetta. These come in two variants — a regular version (#189/166) and an artist-signed version (#189*/166), where the artist's actual signature appears on the card itself.
- Connecting Art Overnumbered: Pairs of cards that form a single connected piece of artwork when placed side by side. Vendetta has 22 of these across 11 pairings, each representing a relationship from the League universe (rivalries, friendships, and family). Examples include Vi and Jinx, Zed and Shen, and Renekton and Nasus. You need both cards in a pair to see the full artwork.
Akali is the only legend on this list with both a regular and Signature variant showing up in the price rankings, which gives you a clear look at the gap between the two.
Does the Meta Actually Affect Card Prices?
The most important thing to understand about this list is that the variant type is what's driving the price, not the card itself. The base versions of all these legend cards cost almost nothing: Kennen's regular card is $0.11, Akali's is $0.13, Renekton's is $0.10. The only reason any of these are in the hundreds or thousands is because they are Overnumbered or artist-signed variants.
What makes artist-signed Overnumbered cards so valuable comes down to various factors. First, the no-reprint guarantee: what gets printed is all there will ever be. Second, the artwork: each Signature features a unique illustration commissioned specifically for that variant, and the quality and style of the art.
Within that context, character popularity and meta performance explain why some Signatures cost more than others. Akali's artist-signed version sitting above Kennen's despite a lower win rate comes down to character demand and how the artwork landed with collectors. Kennen holding above Nasus reflects both meta dominance and broader appeal. But none of these cards would be on this list at all without the variant rarity, artwork, and signature doing the heavy lifting first.
The meta is a secondary factor at most. It can push one Signature above another, but it's not what put them here.
